Hear No Evil – Speak No Evil By RepJ360

Confessions are a powerful thing, they let the world around you know your truth. But most importantly they let you know your truth. It’s funny, when you think something, it isn’t quite true yet, but the moment you say it out there’s no going back from there. And that’s what a confession is, also known as an affirmation, something you say to get the wheels of progress turning. That is just the power of the spoken word, a power that is of course a two edged sword, meaning if you speak negative it’ll be wheels of decline that’ll start moving. Hence, the undeniable power of song – good songs make you feel good, bad songs make you feel…

Devotional Playlist is a collection of good songs – posted daily – that have taught us (RepJ360) something new and reminded us about something old. These songs have been known to lift our spirits and put positive words in our mouths for the world to hear. Everyday a new song would be posted with a message from it. At the end of 7 days you’ve got a playlist of good songs with confessions that you won’t find yourself slapping your mouth to stop from humming the tune.

This week:

Our God Reigns, Always so We Won’t Be Shaken. We are Made For You, In Christ Alone. We are Fearless and we will Dance Again.

Ore’s Playlist May 2017

My playlist is long overdue, I couldn’t decide what songs to put on my list. I finally narrowed it down to these songs. I really love these songs I hope you enjoy them.

  • “I Told You” By Bemyoda: I have listened to this song on replay since Friday the 12th May. I really like the journey the lyrics take me on.  This is one of my best lines in the song. ‘’Don’t listen for strange hearts listen for mine, I will be the voice that tells you to fight for life, for freedom’’. This speaks to me in this season where I have a lot of decisions to make and so many opinions.

  • “Come As You Are” By Shane & Shane: I came across Shane & Shane; The Worship Initiative, Vol 12, by accident but if you are a believer in the fact that all things are connected, like I am, then I found it when I needed it the most. A line in the song sings ‘’Lay down your hurts, lay down your heart come as you are’’, this hit all the right spots with me, because of the hurt I carry around. I have sang it so many times and made it my prayer, to lay down my hurt and lay down my heart and just walk There are so many more lines of the song I love and I am sure they will bless you, so please take a few minutes to read though the lyrics below.

Come out of sadness
From wherever you’ve been
Come broken hearted
Let rescue begin
Come find your mercy
Oh sinner come kneel
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t heal
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t heal
So lay down your burdens
Lay down your shame
All who are broken
Lift up your face
Oh wanderer come home
You’re not too far
So lay down your hurt
Lay down your heart
Come as you are
There’s hope for the hopeless
And all those who’ve strayed
Come sit at the table
Come taste the grace
There’s rest for the weary
Rest that endures
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t cure
So lay down your burdens
Lay down your shame
All who are broken
Lift up your face
Oh wanderer come home
You’re not too far
Lay down your hurt lay down your heart
Come as you are
Come as you are
Fall in his arms
Come as you are
There’s joy for the morning
Oh sinner be still
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t heal
Earth has no sorrow
That heaven can’t heal
So lay down your burdens
Lay down your shame
All who are broken
Lift up your face
Oh wanderer come home
You’re not too far
So lay down your hurt
Lay down your heart
Come as you are
Come as you are
Come as you are
Come as you are

  • “What a beautiful Name” by Hillsong: Hillsong released an EP of different versions of the song, which I listened to nonstop for a few days, each version is different from the last and each gives a new appreciation of the name of Jesus, how wonderful and powerful the name is. ‘’You didn’t want heaven without us, so father you brought heaven down’’ This line helps me shift focus from all my shortcoming, not beat myself up too much on days I forget to have my morning devotion and just focus on the fact that God wants me, that God wants all of us. I also love other lines in the songs, so please read though the lyrics below and let the name of Jesus come alive to you in a new way.
  • You were the Word at the beginning

One With God the Lord Most High

    Your hidden glory in creation

Now revealed in You our Christ

What a beautiful Name it is

What a beautiful Name it is

The Name of Jesus Christ my King

What a beautiful Name it is

    Nothing compares to this

What a beautiful Name it is

    The Name of Jesus

You didn’t want heaven without us

So Jesus, You brought heaven down

My sin was great, Your love was greater

    What could separate us now

What a wonderful Name it is

What a wonderful Name it is

The Name of Jesus Christ my King

What a wonderful Name it is

    Nothing compares to this

What a wonderful Name it is

    The Name of Jesus

What a wonderful Name it is

    The Name of Jesus

How sweet is your name, Lord, how good You are

Love to sing in the name of the Lord, love to sing for you all?

Death could not hold You, the veil tore before You

You silenced the boast, of sin and grave

The heavens are roaring, the praise of Your glory

For You are raised to life again

You have no rival, You have no equal

Now and forever, Our God reigns

Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the glory

Yours is the Name, above all names

What a powerful Name it is

What a powerful Name it is

The Name of Jesus Christ my King

What a powerful Name it is

    Nothing can stand against

What a powerful Name it is

    The Name of Jesus

You have no rival, You have no equal

Now and forever, Our God reigns

Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the glory

Yours is the Name, above all names

What a powerful Name it is

What a powerful Name it is

The Name of Jesus Christ my King

What a powerful Name it is

    Nothing can stand against

What a powerful Name it is

    The Name of Jesus

What a powerful Name it is

    The Name of Jesus

What a powerful Name it is

    The Name of Jesus

Ore’s Playlist March 2017

I wasn’t going to have a playlist this month because of the ongoing series ‘’Headphone & Epiphanies’’ and because I didn’t listen to music a lot this month, I am trying to practice the teachings of Brother Lawrence presented by Steve Case in the book ‘’God is here Connect’’, he teaches not to glorify the means we use to connect to God, understanding that the means can only carry us for so long.

So I tried to connect to God without music, in my thoughts, prayers and conversation with people, in the course of the month I realised that songs began to mean new things to me, the lyrics felt like I had never listened to them and I saw more of God, not only in the songs but in my everyday life, through  my emotions and in my daily struggles. I really enjoyed the joy and peace of God even on bad days, and this month had a truck load of bad days, but what I have learnt and I pray I never forget is to take the deliberate steps to dwell always in the presence of God even in the most mundane moments.

  • Elevation Worship – There is a Cloud: I am a ‘’next phase’’ kind of girl, I am always thinking of what comes after and I tend to lose hope when I can’t see what is coming. This song reminds me to have hope, to understand that God has got me covered always.

  • Elevation Worship – O Come to the Altar: This song reminds me of God’s great love for us that we can always come to him in any state we are and we will be accepted. I don’t think  a reminder of God’s love is ever too much, if anything, I think we don’t talk about it enough.

  • Elevation Worship – Do it Again: Many times we forget God’s sovereign power, we can’t see pass the mountain in front of us, the song sings of God’s faithfulness and reassurance in God’s sovereign power and we all need to remember this every now and again.

  • United Pursuit – Let You Go: I really like this song, it tells a story of a place we have all found ourselves in our Christian walk, where fear still rules and we hold on tight to our religious rituals instead of embracing the truth the bible teaches. The song sings of us letting go of all these things and embracing God, letting God control and direct us.

I pray you enjoy these songs and they bless you!

Headphones & Epiphanies – Oyinkan’s Story

Today was a rainy day in Lagos, rainy days equal traffic and aching knees and upper arms.
What kept me going on my drive home is my current ”One Woman Party Playlist”. I was singing along with at the top of my lungs and I forgot my aching joints and the traffic.
The songs I listened to took me on a journey to a place where all my current problems cease to exist and I could live in the songwriters words.
Music is an important part of my life, I have learnt so much about life and God’s love through music.
What better way to celebrate my love for  music than to get my friends to share their stories through music they love.
The Series on The Over Thinker for this month is Headphones and Epiphanies! I hope you enjoy it.
Please leave a song recommendation in the comments below!

I’m a lover of music. Period. Regardless of its genre or category. I’m literally one of those people who was and is still being saved by music (after God of course).

I have way too many favourites so it was actually a pain to try and put them in such a short list. I did try to pick 10 of my favourite songs but I really couldn’t put them in an order. I draw the line in confining such beauty to an order. So here are just 10 out of my many many favourites. I hope you like them.

  • The Scientist by Coldplay – I absolutely love this song. There are so many covers but my favourite is still the Glee cast version. This song sure got me through my heartbreak days.
  • Beauty in the World by Macy Gray – This song actually cheers me up when I’m down. Reminds me that there’s still good and happiness to be found in the world.
  • Skinny Love by Birdy (originally by Bon Iver)– I love Birdy’s sound. Skinny love happens to be the first of her songs I ever heard and fell in love with. This song is one of my favourite songs because i could totally related with the title and it also got me through some heartbreak days too.
  • Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men – The beginning of this song always makes me want to dance by jumping and putting my fist in the air. Lol. And doing that just makes me feel silly and happy.
  • This is how we do it by Montell Jordan – This right here is a classic old school jam. I know the lyrics to this song from beginning to end and I just always feel like such a cuu kid when I jam to it.
  • Hey, soul sister by Train – This is also one of my best friend’s favourite and it was and always will be our jam. In school, we’d often use spoons as pretend microphones, jump and sing this song at the top of our voices and subsequently annoy everyone around us. But we didn’t care. It was our jam so it had to be done. Lol.
  • Have you ever by Brandy – Back in secondary school, I went through a ‘blues’ phase. This song pretty much summed up my feelings for a crush I had. I’d cuddle up in bed, listen to this song on my walkman ( which was a contraband) and think about this crush (Sad, I know). Lol. It never really made me feel better but it still remains one of my favourites. Oh and if you were wondering, it never worked out with that crush either.
  • He turned it by Tye Tribbett – This song pretty much sums up all God has done and still does for me and how he has put the devil to shame in my life. Love the lyrics and how fast the beat is. No one should be subjected to the sight of me dancing to this song. Lol. You’d probably be intimidated by the joy I radiate.
  • Home by Gabrielle Aplin – I absolutely love acoustic music and that’s basically all Gabrielle does. The lyrics have truth and meaning. Oh and her voice is so sweet and unique. That alone certifies it as a favourite for me.
  • Home is wherever I’m with you by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes – This song puts a smile on my face whenever I listen to it. The title of the song already tells you what the song is about and being the hopeless romantic that I am, how can I not love it. Lol. Love the beat and somewhat amusing lyrics

These are just 10 of my favourite songs. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this. Cheers.
